Dispur issues new fresh guidelines in view of surge in COVID-19 cases

GUWAHATI: In view of the spurt in COVID-19 cases, the Assam Government has issued fresh guidelines. The fresh guidelines will come into force from 5 am on May 5 and will remain in force until further order.

According to the fresh guidelines, Night curfew will be in place from 6 pm to 5 am. There shall be a total ban on all movements, with exemptions allowed for individuals providing emergency and essential services.

Shops and business establishments as well as government and private offices will have to be closed at 2 pm, except for organisations rendering essential services.

All educational institutions — including schools, colleges, and universities — have been directed to provide quality virtual options.

If the COVID-19 positivity rate reaches 10 per cent or if the bed occupancy of ICUs (Intensive Care Units) and oxygen-supported beds reach 60 per cent in a marked geographical area, that area may be declared as a 'Containment Zone' by the District Magistrate.

Auto rickshaws and taxis will operate with one driver and a maximum of two passengers. Buses will be allowed to operate with 50 per cent seating capacity.

Dine-in restaurants and eateries will function till 2 pm; takeaway facility is allowed till 6 pm; however, only home delivery of food is permitted after 6 pm.

No gatherings are allowed at open or closed spaces. Only the religious part of marriages has been allowed, with a maximum of 20 guests. Gatherings at a funeral have been capped at 20 persons.

Subject to observance of COVID-appropriate behaviour, industrial units and tea gardens will remain functional.

Pharmacies, hospitals, animal and veterinary care will also remain operational.
