GUWAHATI: After Guardian Ministers, Dispur has posted 13 senior IAS officers as 'Guardian Secretaries' to look after various issues of 34 districts in the State, in a first.

The Personnel Department has already issued the official notification in this regard.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma last month appointed 13 'Guardian Ministers' for 34 districts. The 'Guardian Ministers' have been entrusted with administrative roles and responsibilities of their assigned districts. They will also oversee the implementation of various government policies, decisions, administrative reforms and welfare schemes for the public and submit a report to the Chief Minister every month. The report will include details such as obstacles faced in the implementation of schemes and policies to eradicate them.

The assigned ministers will also prepare plans for infrastructure development in their respective districts and identify resources for employment generation etc. Moreover, a monthly/bimonthly visit to the district headquarters along with special visits during emergencies has been made mandatory for the ministers.

The senior IAS officers who are now posted as 'Guardian Secretaries' will review and take stock of various issues including the Covid-19 pandemic and other emergencies of their respective districts.

The government has posted IAS officer Niraj Verma as the 'Guardian Secretary' for Bajali, Charaideo and Majuli districts, Monalisa Goswami for Baksa and Chirang, Dr JB Ekka for Barpeta, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Rajesh Prasad for Biswanath, Sonitpur and Nagaon, Maninder Singh for Cachar, Kokrajhar and Udalguri, Dr KK Dwivedi for Darrang, Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro), Vinod Seshan for Dhemai & Lakhimpur, Anant Lal Gyani for Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, AP Das Joshi for Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, Mukesh Chandra Sahu for Goalpara, Nalbari and South Salmara, Anurag Goel for Golaghat and Morigaon, Rakesh Kumar for Halikandi, Hojai and Karimganj and B Kalyan Chakravarthy for Jorhat and Sivasagar.
