GUWAHATI: Investigation into the Dhula rape-and-murder case has made some startling revelations like doctors conspiring with an accused to cause the disappearance of evidence and framing an incorrect record (1st post-mortem report) to save the accused from punishment. The investigation has also found that the then ASP, Rupam Phukan, also took a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh from the kin of the accused through the then Dhula PS OC to screen the person accused of molesting and murdering the minor girl.

According to CID sources, Dr Arun Chandra Deka, Dr Ajanta Bordoloi and Dr Anupam Sharma, who had conducted the first post-mortem at Mangaldai Civil Hospital, clearly wrote that there were no injuries except the 'ligature mark'. They did not mention the continuation of injuries on the skull and the neck, which the second post-mortem conducted at GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) after exhuming the body with permission of the Court clearly brought out, CID sources said.

CID sources also revealed that the second post-mortem concluded that "the injuries are ante-mortem and caused by a blunt force impact. Further, the panel of forensic medicine experts from AIIMS, NEIGRIMS and GMC clearly concluded that "the injuries are more common in cases of strangulation and that the injuries are due to a blunt weapon and that the death is due to homicidal strangulation and not suicide".

CID sources also said, "Even after formal sharing of the FSL report, the arrested doctors concluded that there was no sexual assault and that the death was due to hanging which was suicidal in nature."

The investigators found that the arrested doctors did no videography and followed no proper procedures of an autopsy while conducting the post-mortem.

According to sources, the investigators arrested ASP Rupam Phukan based on the confessional statement of the then Dhula PS OC Utpal Bora, who had taken Rs 5 lakh from the kin of the accused in the rape-and-murder case accused Krishna Kamal Baruah. He is an SSB jawan.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the victim girl's house at Dhekiajuli and ordered the CID to take up the investigation, besides the suspension of then Darrang SP Raj Mohan Ray, ASP Rupam Phukan and Dhula PS OC Utpal Bora. The investigators also searched the residence of the then-Darrang SP but did not get him.
