DoNER to bring more projects under satellite monitoring mechanism

GUWAHATI: Assam and other states of the Northeast have the dubious distinction of delaying Central projects. The Centre developed a project-monitoring Mobile App to monitor the physical progress of Central projects in the northeastern region. The Centre has brought some projects under this monitoring mechanism. And it will bring more projects under it.

According to this mechanism, the Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) will monitor the physical development of Central projects in the Northeast in three modes – Mobile App, satellite images and drone images.

The Ministry of DoNER has developed this project-monitoring mechanism in collaboration with the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Department of Space. The Ministry may sanction Rs 1,500 crore for various projects in the northeastern states under the PM-DevINE (Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region) Scheme by March 31, 2023, as mentioned in the Union Budget, 2022-23. According to sources, DoNER may also bring the projects belonging to the PM-DevINE Scheme under its monitoring system.

The Ministry geo-tagged 562 of the 588 projects located in the region till November 2022 through satellite images and the mobile App for monitoring purposes.

According to sources in the Ministry, it sanctioned 145 projects costing Rs 3392.99 crore in the Northeast under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) till the first week of December 2022. As many as 33 projects of Assam got approval with a cost of Rs 880.82 crore under NESIDS.

The NESIDS is a 100 per cent centrally-funded scheme.
