GUWAHATI: Following an appeal made by AGP MP Birendra Prasad Baishya for installation of a ‘portrait statue’ of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika in the premises of Parliament House, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu assured Baishya that the Parliamentary Committee will look into the matter.
Making the appeal, Baishya recalled Dr Hazarika’s contributions to the art and culture of Assam and NE in particular and the nation in general.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring the ‘Bharat Ratna’ honour to Dr Hazarika, Baishya added, “During the time when China attacked the country and reached Bomdila of Arunachal Pradesh, Bhupen Hazarika, through his songs, appealed to build a strong Army against the Chinese aggression.”
