GUWAHATI: Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya has made it known to the newly-elected central executive committee of the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) that he wants to respond positively to the plea of a section of AASU leaders for his continuation as the chief adviser of the students' body.
The new central committee leaders of the AASU took an oath and assumed charges at Gauhati University on Monday when Dr. Bhattacharjya made his decision known. Among those who took charge today were president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah.
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Bhattacharjya said, "I have reached such a decision by showing respects to the plea from the delegates of AASU at the Dulliajan general conference and other ethnic groups of the State, besides suggestions from noted citizens."
Meanwhile, talking to the media after the oath-taking ceremony, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath said, "The issue of Dr. Bhattacharjya's continuation as AASU adviser-in-chief will be discussed at the next executive committee meeting."
Former AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi was also present at the oath-taking ceremony.
