Draft photo electoral roll-2021: Assam registers 2,24,39,522 voters

Following directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the draft photo electoral roll-2021 was published by the Election Department, Assam on Tuesday.

GUWAHATI: Following directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the draft photo electoral roll-2021 was published by the Election Department, Assam on Tuesday.

The process for registering claims and objections started from November 18; and it will continue up to December 15. Disposal of claims and objections will be completed by January 5, 2021. The final electoral roll will be published on January 15, 2021. Mentionably, the State Assembly elections will be held based on this final electoral roll.

Copies of the draft electoral roll will be available for inspection with the Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) and the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). One can also log in to www.ceoassam.in and www.nvsp.in to inspect the electoral roll.

All eligible Indian citizens who will be attaining the age of 18 years on January 1, 2021 as the qualifying date, may apply for registration of their names as voters within the period from November 18, 2020 to December 15, 2020.

Application for registration, deletion of names from the electoral roll, correction of entries in the electoral roll and transposition of name from one polling station to another polling station in the same constituency, can be submitted online through www.ceoassam.in and www.nvsp.in. Forms will also be available with the BLOs and EROs. "One can submit filled-in forms to the BLO of the concerning polling station and ERO of the concerning Assembly Constituency," stated a release.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, has requested all citizens to participate in the special summary revision exercise-2021.

The total electorates in the State now are 2,24,39,522. Of them, while male voters are 1,14,25,748, the female electorates are 1,10,13,774. While the maximum number of 60,64,678 voters is in the 20-to-29 age group with 30,89,856 males and 29,74,822 females, the minimum number of 1,17,051 electorates are in the 18-19 age group with 59,185 male voters and 47,866 female electorates.

Compared to the final photo electoral roll-2020', the draft electoral roll-2021 indicates an increase of 0.34% voters or 76,020 electors.

In 2020, the total electorates in Assam were 2,23,63,502. There were 1,13,94,405 male voters and 1,09,68,659 female voters, besides 438 Third Gender voters.

According to the draft photo electoral roll-2020, while the highest number of 3,89,897 voters has been registered in Dispur LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) under Kamrup (Metro), the lowest number of 1,11,023 voters has been reported from Thowra LAC in Sibsagar district.
