Draft photo electoral roll shows 0.77% rise in voters

GUWAHATI: The State Election Department published the draft photo electoral roll today with January 1, 2023, as the qualifying date. The department published the draft roll following a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

According to the draft photo electoral roll published today, the state has 2,38,81,196 electors – 1,20,26,588 males and 1,18,54,608 females. The draft photo electoral roll has registered a 0.77 per cent increase in voters, compared to the final photo electoral roll of 2022 published on January 5, 2022. The final photo electoral roll of 2022 had 2,37,10,834 voters – 1,19,56,211 males and 1,17,54,623 females.

Dispur LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency) has the highest number of 4,19,398 voters, and Thowra LAC has the lowest number of 1,17,324 voters in the draft photo electoral roll published today. The numbers of electors in the other three LACs of the Kamrup (M) district in the draft roll are 2,05,792 in Jalukbari, 2,41,742 in Gauhati East and 3,03,772 in Gauhati West LAC.

People can lodge claims and objections from today till December 9. The authority will dispose of the claims and objections by December 26.

The department will publish the final photo electoral roll on January 5, 2023, with January 1, 2023, as the qualifying date.
