BOKAJAN: The Khatkhati Police intercepted an auto-rickshaw at the Balijan Forest Tiniali near the Nagaland border and recovered 78 soap cases containing approximately one kg of heroin worth Rs 4 crore from the possession of Suruj Ali (40) on Sunday. Ali is a resident of Moirabari in the Morigaon district.

Despite the regular crackdown on the smuggling of narcotic drugs by the police in Karbi Anglong, drug trafficking continues along the Assam-Nagaland border.

"The approximate value of the seized drugs is Rs 4 crore in the black market. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the drugs were for storage somewhere in the area to sell them in smaller quantities later. The investigation is going on," SDPO John Das said.

Karbi Anglong police had seized 646 grams of fine-quality heroin worth Rs 2 crore on Wednesday last. In August, the Karbi Anglong police seizure had recovered 2.17 kg of heroin worth Rs 8 crore and arrested the kingpin in that connection.
