GUWAHATI: From October 2, the State government will pay Rs 830 monthly to each of around 17 lakh poor families, preferably those run by women earners. This scheme will cost Rs 210 crore per month from the State exchequer.
The process for selection of beneficiaries for this Budgetary scheme named 'Arunodoi' will be started from August 17, 2020.
The objective of this scheme is to make a single-window clearance of funds meant for the poor beneficiaries of various schemes for which people have to run from pillar to post of various departments. The Rs 830 includes money meant for medicines, sugar, pulses, fruits etc.
Each beneficiary family will have to nominate a woman member since the money will be deposited directly in her account. Preference will be given to widows, divorcees, separated women, and unmarried women.
Ineligible families for the scheme are MLAs, former MLAs, government employees, doctors, engineers, families installing ACs in their houses, families owning four-wheelers and others.
The selection process is such that the gram sabhas will make the lists of beneficiaries and hand them over to panchayats who will send it to the Deputy Commissioners, who will finalize the lists.
The government is going to appoint Arunudoi helpers in each LAC to help the poor families complete their bank-related formalities.
The scheme is meant to give a succour to the families that have been badly affected by the corona-induced lockdown.
