GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the 'Special Summary Revision' (SSR) of photo electoral rolls-2021 for Assam. The next Assembly election slated in April 2021 will be based on this revision.

State Election department sources said that the 'integrated draft electoral rolls' will be published on November 16.

Claims and objections on the draft can be filed from November 16 to December 15. Special awareness campaigns among the electorates will be conducted on two Saturdays and Sundays within this one-month period. The Chief Electoral Officer of the State will finalize these dates.

Disposal of the claims and objections will be done by January 5, 2021.

The final photo electoral rolls will be published on January 15, 2021.

The ECI has also directed the State Election Department, Assam to carry out pre-revision activities like rationalization of polling stations among other steps before the publication of draft photo electoral rolls.

The last photo electoral rolls of Assam was published on February 15, 2020. According to these rolls, Assam had 2,23,63,502 electors; of which 1,13,94,405 were males and 1,09,69,097 were females.

While the highest number of 66,01,475 electors was in the age group of 18 to 29 years; 5,10,064 were between 18 to 19 years of age and 60,91,411 were included in the age group of 20 to 29 years. There were 2,64,298 voters in the '80 years or above' age group.
