'DPs need to be completed in six months, not in six years'

GUWAHATI: It baffles Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma why DPs (departmental proceedings) against employees/officers supposed to get completed in six months take as long as six years. The Chief Minister is worried about this precarious situation.

In the run-up to Project Sadbhavana, the Chief Minister today interacted with the Secretariat employees. He said, "The Secretariat is the epicentre of the state administration. Therefore, officers and employees of the Secretariat need to show a high degree of professionalism and transparency in quick disposing of files following the laid-down procedures.

"DPs drawn against officers/employees need completion in six months. However, it is baffling that such DPs continue for three-six years. During this period, the accused officers attend their duties.

"Why does it take so much time to clear pension-related files of retired employees? The retired employees were someone among you. Why do you forget your former colleagues after their superannuation? Why does an employee have to run after files relating to his medical advances for months? I have not heard the voice of employees' unions on such issues. However, they resort to agitations of all hues on their various demands. I feel that the essence of collective spirit is missing somewhere among the officers and employees in the State Secretariat.

"In its bid to make Project Sadbhavana hugely successful, the State Government desired to engage officers and employees of the government. The citizens are an integral part of the state administration. The employees need to show their sensitivity to dispose of the files."

The Chief Minister appealed to the Secretariat employees to extend full cooperation to the successful implementation of Project Sadbhavana.

Starting from February 1, 2022, Project Sadbhavana envisages disposing of old files that remained pending for several years in the Secretariat.
