GUWAHATI: The enhanced COVID-19 vaccination drive evoked a massive response for the second day on Tuesday when 1980 vaccination centres were at work, inoculating 2.84 lakh people.

At many vaccination centres, people were seen crowding. It augurs well that the people come on their own for the inoculation as they know well the importance of the life-saving vaccine.

The five districts that excelled in vaccination on Tuesday are Kamrup (M), Dibrugarh, Cachar, Barpeta and Karimganj.

According to Health Department sources, by 8.30 pm 2.84 lakh people were inoculated. The release said that the number of people vaccinated on Tuesday may go up as reports from many remote areas are still to come.

The vaccination drive in the State has acquired its momentum in no time. On the contrary, the number of districts with more new COVID-19 positive cases has gone up.

According to Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, the number of districts with more COVID cases has risen to nine from five. "Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is going to take a decision tomorrow or the day after to check the further spread of the virus from the specific hotspots in the nine districts to other areas.

"To ensure smooth vaccination in the State, the consignments of vaccines are sent straight to the destination districts from the airports.

"I thank all doctors and other paramedical staffers engaged in the vaccination drive for the success. I also thank all guardian ministers who are in fields to motivate people on the vaccination doses for the success."
