STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI:

Covid Vaccine for All: Worried over the COVID-19 vaccination drive not being able to keep pace with the rising Corona positive cases, the leaders of the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) have said that a fear psychosis has gripped the people as death lurks in every corner of the State.

In a statement issued on Thursday, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said that the people of the State are aware of the pandemic, and hence they come forward for taking vaccines. "However, it's the Health Department that hasn't been able to vaccinate them," the statement said.

The AASU leaders further said that the Government has categorised the people as 45+ and 18+. Some of the 45+ people got the first dose, but a large number of them are yet to get it due to lack of adequate stock of vaccines with the department, the AASU duo rued. They added that those who have got the first dose are crying for the second dose.

The AASU statement said, "Amidst such a situation, the government announced the covid vaccination for 18+ people from May 1. People started their registration online. Online registration is not feasible for all in the State. However, those who've registered their names online for vaccination don't know the dates and places of their inoculation.

"We appeal to the Government to follow a simple vaccination process that can ensure the doses for all people of the State. There should be a vaccination centre in each village. People ageing above 70 years, people with comorbidities and Divyangs should be vaccinated in their respective houses.

"Since all are following the COVID-19 protocol and the students in distress are cooperating with the government, it's the government's responsibility to vaccinate all in time."
