Expectations of Rs 36,137-crore revenue from 6 departments: Assam Government

The State Government expects to earn around Rs 36,137 crore in revenue from its six major revenue-earning departments in the current financial year, 2023–24.

GUWAHATI: The State Government expects to earn around Rs 36,137 crore in revenue from its six major revenue-earning departments in the current financial year, 2023–24.

The total allocation in the 2023–24 annual budget of the State Government is Rs 1,39,755 crore. Since the allocation is huge, the government expects high performance from the six major revenue-earning departments.

According to Finance Department sources, in the current financial year, the government expects the highest revenue of around Rs 24,117 crore from the Commissioner of Taxes. As the Directorate of Geology and Mining earned Rs 4,121 crore in revenue (over 62 percent more than that of the previous financial year) in 2022–23, the government has high expectations from the Directorate in this financial year as well. The Finance Department expects Rs 5,117 crore from the Durectorate of Geology and Mining this year. The remaining major revenue-earning departments are Excise, Transport, Land Revenue and Registration, and Forest. The Finance Department expects Rs 3,000 crore in revenue from Excise, Rs 1,456 crore from Transport, Rs 1,437 crore from Land Revenue and Registration, and Rs 1,010 crore from Forest and Environment.

The breakup of the allocation in the 2023–24 annual budget of the state is Rs 41,040 crore on salary heads and Rs 98,715 crore on non-salary heads. The expenditure of the State Government in the financial year 2022–23 was Rs 1.24 lakh crore.
