BONGAIGAON: Amidst the drive for a weapons-free Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), personnel of the Army unit deployed in Chirang along with those of the Assam Police, 210 Cobra Battalion and 6 Battalion SSB have unearthed a huge cache of arms and ammunition deep inside the Chirang Reserve Forest.

The joint operation was launched based on information regarding the presence of illegal arms and ammunition in the Lal Pathar area of the forest. After conducting searches for 12 days, which involved deep-search metal detectors, a suspected spot was located. After digging it, the hidden arms and ammunition were found. The cache include several firearms, ammunition, grenades and RPG bombs.

This is the second major success of the Army and Police in unearthing huge amounts of arms and ammunition in the district.

After making the recovery, the local police stated that the success of these operations will go a long way in preventing any major anti-national activity by militant organisations.
