GUWAHATI: The fate of the 24 notified subdivisions that were created in 2016 by the previous government in the State has been uncertain even today.

The 24 new 'subdivisions' were formed following a Cabinet decision during the Congress regime in the State. On the basis of the Cabinet decision, the GAD (General Administration Department) issued a notification on February 26, 2016 on the creation of the 'new subdivisions'. However, since then the 'new subdivisions' have been hanging in balance.

After coming to power in May 2016, the new BJP-led government in the State formed a Cabinet sub-committee to look into the feasibility of the 'new subdivisions'. Even though the term of the new government is nearing its fag-end, the Cabinet sub-committee has not submitted its report on the 'new subdivisions' as yet.

The 24 notified subdivisions are Kalgachia, Katigorah, Ramkrishna Nagar, Patharkandi, Tihu, Dhekiajuli, Bihpuria-Narayanpur, Mukalmua, Katlichera, Sorbhog, Manikpur, Naharkatia, Howraghat, Diyumgbra, Dakshin Kamrup, Moran, Merapani, Sarukhetri, Sonapur, Dispur, Guwahati, Azara, Chandrapur and Lakhipur (Goalpara).
