GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Environment and Forest, Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey said that FCI (Food Corporation of India) would procure yearly ten lakh MT of paddy from Assam in the coming years.
Addressing the media at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here on Sunday, Choubey said, "From 2010-2014 FCI procured 47,000 MT of paddy yearly from Assam. The procurement of paddy from Assam by FCI has gone up after Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister.
"FCI will procure two lakh MT of paddy from Assam in the current fiscal. The quantity of paddy procurement from Assam will keep going up every year till it reaches ten lakh MT." State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita was also present at the media briefing.
