GUWAHATI: All the 946 candidates who contested the Assam Assembly elections 2021 will have to submit details of their expenditure during the elections to their respective district election officers by June 16.
As per the Election Commission of India guidelines, candidates are given 45 days from the date of counting of votes (May 2 in the case of Assam) to submit the poll expenditure details.
To kickstart the process, district election officers would be meeting political party representatives between May 22 and 25 so that the poll candidates share the expenditure details with the officials.
The Election Commission (EC) of India briefed the State CEO (Chief Electoral Officer) and the District Election Officers on the filing expenditure returns by the poll candidates through a video conference on Monday.
If any candidate doesn't file poll expenditure returns the ECI will bar him or her from contesting polls for a specific period.
In the recently concluded Assam Assembly election, the ECI capped all poll-related expenses for each candidate at Rs 30.80 lakh.
The Assam Assembly elections were held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6 and the results were declared on May 2.
