GUWAHATI: The process is underway to reopen the classes for final year students in the state from September 1, 2021. The State Education Department is preparing an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for that purpose.

Talking to The Sentinel, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, "The Covid-19 has improved to an extent in the state. We are contemplating reopening classes X, XII, TDC (Three-Year Degree Course) and final years of other courses from September 1, 2021.

"We are preparing an SOP spelling out in detail of what Covid-appropriate behaviour the students and the teachers will have to follow. We will get the approval of the Chief Minister to the SOP within two or three days. We will publish the SOP after the Chief Minister's approval."

When asked about other classes, Pegu said, "If the pandemic situation improves further, we will reopen all schools and colleges in phases."

Meanwhile, a few days back, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government would reopen the hostels of schools and colleges, but the students would have to take vaccines.

The schools, colleges and universities in the state have been closed since April-end, 2021.
