GUWAHATI: The State Government is inching towards its goal of having 24 medical colleges and hospitals in the state by the coming few years. The state has nine medical colleges and hospitals now.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will lay the foundation stone of the Bongaigaon Medical College & Hospital tomorrow. The works of the four other new medical colleges will also begin this month in phases. The cost of the five medical college and hospital projects is Rs 3159.04 crore.
According to sources, the construction work of the Tamulpur Medical Colleges will begin on December 7, 2022. The laying of foundation stone of the Morigaon Medical College & Hospital and the Golaghat Medical College & Hospital will be on December 8 and 9, 2022, respectively. The foundation stone laying of the Dhemaji Medical College & Hospital will be in mid-December 2022.
A programme – 'Bikaxor babe eta poxekh' – will begin in the state tomorrow. It will conclude on December 19. The works of the medical colleges are part of this programme. The announcement of all five new medical colleges came in the current annual budget.
The project costs of the new medical colleges and hospitals are Rs 666.94 core for Tamulpur Medical College & Hospital, Rs 610.67 crore for Bongaigaon Medical College & Hospital, Rs 647.38 crore for Morigaon Medical College & Hospital, Rs 631.82 crore for Golaghat Medical College & Hospital and Rs 602.25 crore for Dhemaji Medical College & Hospital.
. The State PWD gave three-year time to each of the five construction companies to complete the construction works. The construction of all five medical colleges will be in the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) mode.
