GUWAHATI: The flood situation has improved much in the state, with only 1.21 lakh people affected in eleven districts and subdivisions now. However, according to a CWC (Central Water Commission) report, the Subansiri River in the Lakhimpur district, the Lohit in Tinsukia, the Dikhow and the Disang in the Sivasagar district, the Kopili in Kamrup, the Pagladiya in the Nalbari, and the Beki in the Barpeta district are still maintaining a rising trend.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati said that Sonari and Golaghat witnessed heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. The centre further predicted light to moderate rainfall in almost all areas of the state in the next 24 hours.
However, the death toll from floods has risen to six, with one death today. The State still has 115 relief camps and centres with 713 inmates. The floods and erosion have left a trail of breaches in many dykes and embankments, besides damaging several rural roads and schools.
