Assam Floods: Unrelenting First Wave Deluge, 1.19 Lakh People Affected

GUWAHATI: The first wave of floods of the year seems unrelenting, and it has affected over one lakh people in twenty districts and subdivisions in the state. The surging water damaged roads and bridges, breached dykes and embankments, and caused erosion in different areas of the state.

The Beki, Pagladia, and Puthimari rivers have been flowing above danger levels in many places.

The flood waters have affected over 1.19 lakh people, including 17,652 children. The Nalbari district suffered the worst, with the highest number of 44,707 people affected in the district. It is followed by Baksa with 26,571 affected people, Lakhimpur with 25,096 affected people, and Tamulpur with 15,610 affected people. The administration has opened 31 relief camps and centres, giving shelter to 2091 people.
