Former Assam BJP President Indramoni Bora Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Former Assam BJP president and Rajya Sabha member Indramoni Bora breathed his last at his Uzan Bazar house in the city on Saturday. He was 81.

Indramoni Bora was born at Mangaldoi in 1938. He was elected as the State BJP president, in Guwahati on October 19, 2003. While the leader had retired from active politics after his Rajya Sabha membership ended on June 2007, he continued to be closely associated with ground-level party workers.

Bora had played a key role in strengthening the roots of the party in the North East between 1991 and 2007.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who visited Bora’s residence to pay his tribute to the departed soul, said the State has lost an honest and dedicated politician. He said Bora was respected for his high principles and simplicity.

State Cabinet ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and State Congress president Ripon Borah have deeply condoled the death of Bora.

The last rites of Bora were performed at the Navagraha crematorium with full State honours on Saturday.
