Four buried alive in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: Incessant rains have worsened the flood situation in the state. With the forecast of heavy rains for the next three/four days, the flood situation may deteriorate further in the state. The situation took a turn for the worse in Guwahati on Tuesday. Four workers died in a landslide at Nijarapar in the West Boragaon area in the city last night.

During the heavy rains last night, the guard wall of a house collapsed and buried the four workers alive when they were fast asleep.

Police and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) personnel recovered their bodies this morning. The four were Manuhar Hussain (35), hailing from Dhubri; Amrul Haque (22), also Dhubri; Mofijul Ali (22), from Kokrajhar and Hasanur Ali, also from Kokrajhar.

According to the police, they were staying in a single room in the house of Nayan Rajbongshi. They were working in the under-construction building of one Subal Sarkar nearby.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in the state worsened. The incessant rains since yesterday affected 8,018 people in 12 revenue circles in eight districts in the state. The affected districts are Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Kamrup, South Salmara and Nalbari.
