Four-lane Nagaon Bypass: NHIDCL puts 4 companies in negative list for delay

The NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) has put four construction companies on the negative list for their slow progress

GUWAHATI: The NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) has put four construction companies on the negative list for their slow progress of works in different stretches of the four-lane Nagaon Bypass to Dibrugarh.

NHIDCL is a fully-owned company of the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

According to the NHIDCL office order, the four companies will be on the negative list for one year or till the satisfactory completion of their projects, whichever is earlier.

The four companies put in the negative list are – M/s Gannon Dunkerly and Company Ltd (three stretches), Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (one stretch), Gammon India Ltd (one stretch) and M/s ECI Engineering and Construction Company Ltd (one stretch).

Talking to The Sentinel, NHIDCL's NE Regional Office Executive Director Pankaj Singh said, "Our headquarters has put these construction companies in the negative list after examining the progress of works in their respective stretches of the Nagaon of Bypass to Dibrugarh. So long they are on the negative list, they cannot take part in any NHIDCL tender."

The three stretches of Gannon Dunkerly and Company Ltd are Jorhat-Jhanji (37.8 km), Jhanji-Demow (44.075 km) and Demow-end of Moran Bypass (26.9 km). The single stretch of ECI Engineering and Construction Company Ltd is from Gohpur-Holongi (10.08 km), that of Gammon India Ltd is from Kaliabor Tiniali-Dolabari (17.3 km including a bridge over the Brahmaputra), and the stretch for Hindustan Construction Company Ltd is from Numalgarh-Jorhat (39.72 km).

The scheduled date of completion of the Jorhat-Jhanji stretch was December 30, 2020; that of the Jhanji-Demow stretch was January 18, 2021; the Demow-the end of Moran Bypass was by February 12, 2019, and the Numaligarh-Jorhat stretch was to complete by May 22, 2020. The Kaliabor Tiniali-Dolabari stretch was to complete by November 28, 2018.
