GUWAHATI: A division bench of the Gauhati High Court has directed a member-secretary of the Assam State Legal Services Authority to inspect the existing Court premises in districts without court infrastructure. The order further said that the State Government would nominate an officer, not below the rank of an executive engineer in the districts concerned to conduct the inspection.

The bench has further directed that the member-secretary of each district shall submit an individual report before this Court on how, when and where Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centres can be established, particularly in the existing infrastructure.

The bench has issued this order after hearing some PILs on reports relating to the lack of infrastructure of POCSO Courts functioning in various districts. The reports indicate the absence of proper facilities for POCSO Courts. A compilation report indicated a lack of some amenities and facilities in POCSO Courts.
