GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has barred the government from taking any action on the basis of the merit list published by the Gauhati University for recruitment of persons with disabilities (PwD) to Grade-IV posts in various departments, till such time as the Registrar of the university examines whether any procedural irregularity exists in publication of the list in question and passes a "reasoned order" within a week and, if necessary, carries out any rectification work that may be required as per law.

The High Court issued this directive in response to a Writ Petition filed 197 aggrieved candidates. The petitioners have submitted in the court that as per the relevant advertisement dated December 30, 2018, the selection ought to have been prepared in a department-wise manner. However, the petitioners have alleged that the merit list has been prepared in a general manner and not department-wise.
