GUWAHATI: Health Minister Keshab Mahanta instructed all government employees to take the Covid-19 vaccine within this week, if not taken yet. He also said that from September 6, the heads of offices would have to display boards or plaques with – we are all vaccinated – written on them, in front of their respective offices.

Talking to The Sentinel, Mahanta said, "Since we have relaxed the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to a large extent, we want the offices in the state to work in full swing from Monday. Every official will have to take the vaccine and attend the office.

"We have instructed the heads of all offices to make arrangements for vaccination within this week if any employees under them have not yet taken vaccines. From Monday, the heads of offices will have to display boards or plaques with – we are all vaccinated – written on them, in front of their offices."

The minister further said, "Since educational institutions will open for the final-year students from Monday, all teachers, other staff members and 18+ students will have to take vaccines by this week."

The minister said that vaccines are available in the state now.

Till 8:30 pm on Monday, the medicos in the state inoculated 1,78,85,109 people – 1,46,80,059 with the first doses and 32,05,050 with the second doses. On Thursday, the vaccination drive took place from 1,962 sites in the state.
