GUWAHATI: In a significant development, Dispur asked all the deputy commissioners through the WPT & BC (Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes) Department to submit the census data of 33 communities of the State.

The data are to be found out through a survey of villages and the population of the communities in every district of the State. The deputy commissioners were also asked to prepare lists of villages inhabited by the communities.

The 33 communities are – Kalita; Sarania Kachari; Gorkha; Nath Yogi; Bishnupriya Manipuri; Manipuri; Hindi-speaking; Bengali speaking; Keot; Garo; Barman Dimasa Kachari; Sut; Goria; Tai Ahom; Chutia; Mech Kachari; Khasi Jaintia; Karbis living outside Karbi Anglong; Koch Rajbongshi; Maimal; Hill Tribes of Barak Valley; Moria; Sadharan Jati; Adivasi; Singpho, Sema (Man Tai); Hajong; Chaodang; Modahi; Kumar; Jolha; Brahmin; Maran and Matak.
