DUDHNOI: The Goalpara Police seized narcotic tablets worth Rs 2 crore and cash amounting to Rs 21 lakh from drug peddlers on Friday.

Around 10 am this morning, Goalpara Superintendent of Police VV Rakesh Reddy got a tip-off and chased it. The chase led to the recovery of narcotic tablets worth Rs 2 crore and Rs 21 lakh cash, besides the arrest of the drug trafficking team from National Highway 17 in Dudhnoi. The police collaborated with paramilitary forces in the drive.

According to police sources, they seized a Bolero (MN-03P-4820) registered in Manipur and another Guwahati-bound Bolero from Goalpara at Fafal in Dudhnoi and recovered the tablets. They also arrested the occupants of the two Boleros. As many as 50,000 narcotic tablets were recovered from one of the vehicles. The police seized Rs 19 lakh from the backlight of another vehicle. Another Rs 2.50 lakh was recovered while conducting searches after the two seized Bolero vehicles were brought to Dudhnoi police station. The total amount recovered is Rs 21.5 lakh. They arrested three persons, including a woman, from one of the Bolero. Two others fled the spot. The police also recovered several mobiles and ID cards from the seized car.

The persons involved in the drug trafficking case are Johny Singh (26), son of Lokendro Singh hailing from East Wangkhei police station in Imphal East district; Lhingjboi (28), wife of Lulung Singh hailing from Imphal East district; Lulung Singh (34), son of Lokendro Singh also hailing from Imphal East; Abdul Latif Chaudhary (39), son of Asiruddin Ahmad hailing from Bogribari police station in the Dhubri district of Assam.
