GUWAHATI: President of India Droupadi Murmu appointed the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Gulab Chand Kataria, as Assam Governor.
Gulab Chand Kataria will be the 31st Governor of Assam. Born on October 13, 1944, Kataria was the Home Minister of Rajasthan from 2014 to 2018. Kataria is the BJP leader from Rajasthan and is also a member of the central working committee of the party. He hails from Udaipur and has represented it in the 9th Lok Sabha.
Outgoing Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi assumed his office on October 10, 2017.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Heartiest congratulations, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria ji, on being appointed as Hon'ble Governor of Assam." Your vast experience in public service will surely benefit Assam immensely. Looking forward to work with you to take our journey of progress further."
