GUWAHATI: The State's capital city is anxiously waiting for results of the 50,000 random swab tests even as the number of containment zones is increasing here due to the rise in COVID-19 positive cases. Now, the city has 118 containment zones.
All Circle Officers in the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district have been instructed to declare a particular area as containment zone immediately after detection of COVID positive case(s). The cases of a rickshaw puller in Anil Nagar area, three salesmen of a leading readymade store in Fancy Bazar testing COVID positive and a few others, have already triggered a sense of fear and insecurity among the city residents about the possible spread of coronavirus at the community level. But the actual situation will become clear only after the results of 50,000 random tests are declared phase wise from Sunday onwards.
Reacting to the recent incidents where quarantine rules have been violated, a senior Health department official said, "All efforts of the State Government to prevent the community spread of coronavirus would fail to deliver results if the quarantine rules are not strictly followed by the concerned people."
