GUWAHATI: "The city will witness the peak of COVID-19 spike on September 15 after which the surge is expected to come down," said State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here on Tuesday.

He added, "Since the lockdown norms have been relaxed in Guwahati, we apprehend 800 to 1,000 COVID-19 cases daily. To tackle this critical stage, we're going to set up several COVID Care Centres within the city and its suburbs. The shortlisted sites are at Palasbari, Amingaon, Nehru Stadium, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Royal Global School, Kaziranga School, and Delhi Public School.

"Manpower for these centres is being arranged from outside Guwahati. We'll also involve the PG students taking admission in various medical colleges of the State. On Tuesday itself, we engaged 150 such PG first-year students in COVID duties."

COVID DEATHS: On Tuesday night, Minister Sarma tweeted, "I am extremely disheartened to share that Rekha Dutta (63, Darrang), Mona Das (51, Dibrugarh), Sister Florence (74, Kamrup M), Mukiv Ali (65, Kamrup Rural), and Bulin Begum (44, Kamrup M) succumbed to COVID-19. Condolences to their families."
