GUWAHATI: The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) final examination 2023 under the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will be held from March 3 to March 20 next.

As per the examination programme released by the SEBA on Thursday, the practical examinations will be held on February 24 and February 25, 2023. The SEBA has stipulated that all practical examinations will be held in the same examination centre where the candidate concerned will appear in the relevant theory paper.

Chairman of the SEBA, Ramesh Chandra Jain informed the media that the HSLC examination will be conducted as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which will entail some changes in the system.

Jain said that the question papers of the English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science will contain 50 per cent objective type and 50 per cent descriptive type questions. He said that while there used to be just 10 to 20 objective type questions of 1 mark each earlier, this time there will be 50 such questions. There will be two distinct systems of answering objective type and descriptive type questions, he said, adding that this is being done in line with the question papers set by the University of Delhi and some other universities for their respective entrance examinations. This will help the students while appearing for various entrance examinations to institutions of higher education in future, Jain said.

The SEBA chairman said that there will 912 examination centres for HSLC examination 2023, nine more than the previous year. CCTV cameras will be installed at all examination centres, he said.

Jain said that while 1.93 lakh candidates have filled up their forms online so far, it is expected that the total number of candidates in the examination will be between 3.5 to 4 lakh.

The last date for filling up forms online is December 15, Jain added.
