Talking to reporters on Saturday, Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Roushan said that based on specific inputs, the joint team of security forces under the leadership of DSP HQ Mukut Rabha, carried out a search operation at 'Ride No 8' within the reserve forest under Gossaigaon Police Station of Kokrajhar district on Friday evening and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition kept concealed under the ground.

The recovered arms and ammunition include among others two AK-56 rifles with two magazines, two country-made AK-56 rifles with two magazines, seven pipe guns, seven 7.6 mm pistols with 26 magazines, 15 numbers of 9 mm ammunition, four rounds of 8mm ammunition, 44 rounds of 7.6 mm ammunition, three country-made bombs, 36 grenades — including two Chinese-made, and some hand-made ones – besides other incriminating materials.

The SP added that the recovery of arms and ammunition was going on since the past six to seven months. He also said that to ensure free-and-fair BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) election, sufficient security forces had arrived, adding that the situation was under control.
