The Social Welfare Department, Assam conducts six-month training courses for economically backward women annually, so as to help them eke out their livelihood.

The courses chosen for such trainings are computer, cutting and tailoring, knitting and embroidery, weaving etc. The pre-requisite qualification for undergoing computer training is matriculation or equivalent. The required qualification for the other courses is Class VIII pass. The upper age limit for candidates undergoing such training courses is 38 years. The trainees get stipend during the six-month training period.
