Information: How to obtain seed licence

Do you want to obtain a licence for doing business in seeds, either as a wholesaler or a retailer? If interested, you will have to get the 'Principal Certificates' from the seed-producing agencies and companies.

Such certificates are official acknowledgement of agencies and companies that the applicants are selling seeds. It is mandatory for applicants to enclose such certificates while applying for seed licence.

While the seed wholesaler's licence is issued by the Directorate of Agriculture at Guwahati, the District Agriculture Officers issue the seed retailer's licence. The application for seed licence has to be sent online by logging on to https://eodb.assam.gov.in.

The candidate seeking seed licence will have to deposit Rs 1,000 as fees through a treasury challan along with online application. The amount will have to be deposited as fees through a treasury challan in favour of the 'Head of account': 'III-Economic services, 0401-Crop Husbandry, 800-other receipt, 103-sale of seeds'.

The applicant will have to fill up a form online, attach the 'Principal Certificates', trade licence, permission for godown, NOCs (No Objection Certificates) from the godown owner and also the seed shop (if the shop premises is owned by others), address proof, a copy of PAN Card, identity proof, passport size photo etc.

After verification by the department, seed licences will be issued within two weeks. This licence has to be renewed after every three years.
