GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) has set a condition that the State Government should open classes for final year students only after inoculating them through vaccination drives.

Talking to The Sentinel on Sunday, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said, "The students suffered a loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and this year. It is the bounden duty of the government to impart them education, besides ensuring the safety of their health."

AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "Many students are yet to get inoculated in rural areas. The government is planning to carry vaccination drives in universities. Only that will not serve the purpose. The Health Department should conduct such vaccination drives in colleges and other educational institutions and besides hostels. The government should open final year classes only after inoculating all 18+ students." The government is going to open classes for final-year students from September 1, 2021.
