GUWAHATI: Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the people of the State voted in favour of the party's struggle to save the civilization and culture of Assam.

Talking to the media on Sunday, Sarma said, "I've noticed in the poll results that despite development in their areas, a section of people hasn't voted for the ruling party. I think voters should cast their votes by taking the good deeds of the parties into consideration, not on the community line.

"I hope we'll be able to take forward the development 'mahayajna' being led by the Prime Minister in the next five years. We'll try to meet the promises we made during the election campaign."

On what the Opposition should be like, Sarma said, "The Opposition should comprise leaders who speak on the behalf of the people of the State, not for appeasing a particular section of people."
