Jishnu Barua to take charge as Assam Chief Secretary today

The Assam Government on Friday appointed senior IAS officer JishnuBarua as the next Chief Secretary of the State.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government on Friday appointed senior IAS officer JishnuBarua as the next Chief Secretary of the State.

Barua, an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer of the 1988 batch, will take charge from outgoing Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, who will retire on October 31, 2020.

Barua is currently serving the State Government as an Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Home & Political, Revenue & Disaster Management, Secretariat Administration (archives) and Border Protection & Development, Implementation of Assam Accord and Passport departments.

He completed his graduation in Philosophy and Post-graduation in History from St Stephen's College under Delhi University.

Barua also served the State in different capacities. He was initially the SDO (Civil) of Abhyapuri and later became Deputy Commissioner of DimaHasao (formerly NC Hills) and Jorhat districts. He was also the Managing Director of Assam Industrial Development Corporation.

He served the Central Government as the Joint Secretary of Services, Vigilance and Training from 2014 to 2017. He was also the Private Secretary to Union Minister of State for Commerce, Planning and Atomic Energy. He served as the Director (Police) in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
