GUWAHATI: The unrelenting intensity of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Kamrup (M) district has worried the State Health Department.

Talking to The Sentinel, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "The decrease in the intensity of the pandemic in Kamrup (M) is not up to our expectations. There is enough room for a second thought on the situation in Kamrup (M). We are weighing all options.

"We have sent the district-wise Covid-19 data, including that of Kamrup (M), to the Chief Minister. He will make a decision soon after analysing the data. We request the people of the state to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour in all public places like markets, malls, offices etc."

The term of the current SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) will expire on Monday. The government may announce a new SOP tomorrow or the day after. At present, five containment zones in the State are Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Biswanath districts.
