Under the PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana), previously known as the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, an expected mother gets Rs 5,000 in two installments, Rs 3,000 during pregnancy and Rs 2,000 after the birth of the first child. If the mother gives birth to her second child, and that turns out to be a girl, she will get Rs 6,000.
To be eligible beneficiary under this Yojana, the mother should be either (i) an ST or SC, (ii) at least 40 percent or complete divyang, (iii) BPL ration card holder, (iv) E-Shram card holder, (V) MGNREGA job card cardholder, (VI) a woman farmer under Krishak Sanman Nidhi, (VII) Ayushman card holder, (VIII) with annual income below Rs 8 lakh or (IX) an Asha worker and helper or Anganwadi worker or helper. Eligible beneficiaries should register their names during pregnancy to avail themselves of benefits under this scheme.
