KOKRAJHAR: The Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar Varnali Deka has received the National Water Award from President of India Ramnath Kavind on Tuesday in an award function held at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Deka has been invited by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to the 3rd National Water Award held today at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi which was graced by the President of India as the chief guest. Deka has been selected for Jal Prahari Samman, 2022 giving due recognition to her efforts at the highest level. She was selected for this award by a selection committee headed by the former Chief Justice of India and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi for her innovative and unique ideas, convergences and projects resulting in water conservation, water use efficiency in agriculture, convergences in livelihood options, creating Jan Bhagidari in the water sector etc.

Deka will also be felicitated as a water warrior of 2022 at the Jal Prahari Samaroh, 2022 on March 30 by the Union Jal Shakti Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the Constitution Club, New Delhi. The event is being organized by Sarkaritel along with the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Jal Jeevan Mission, Government of India.

This worthy daughter of Assam has brought accolades to the state on a number of occasions. A few days back, she brought laurels to Assam for her brainchild - the innovative 'Goalmart' project which won Gold at the national e-governance awards. Deka also received the 'Best District Election Officer Award' from the Election Commission of India for innovations in Election Management during the Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2021. She was amongst a handful of civil servants from across the country selected for the multi-stakeholder symposium Imagine India @ 2047, held at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras for civil servants, entrepreneurs and academia from 6th to 8th of March, 2022, an innovative event to boost technology-based solutions across various sectors to help realize the 'Vision India@2047'.
