SILCHAR: The State Government will not compromise with the interests of the labourers of Dolu TE where a Greenfield airport would be set up, stated Silchar MP, Dr Rajdeep Roy.
He rubbished the allegation raised by opposition parties that litigation was still pending regarding the ownership of the estate.
In an interesting turn of events, the BJP MP arrived at the office of Cachar Cha Shramik Union, a platform known for its proximity with the Congress as leaders like former Congress ministers Dinesh Prasad Goala and Ajit Singh had exclusive reign over the union. However, the joint secretary of the union, former MLA Rajdeep Goala quit the Congress to join the BJP. It was Goala who took initiative for the meeting with MP Roy to allay various apprehensions about the future of the labourers of Dolu.
Recently TMC MP Susmita Dev had written a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to know whether his ministry had approved a greenfield airport at Dolu as till now no announcement had been made by the Union Government.
Dr Roy said, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had made the announcement and without valid information, how could a Chief Minister make such a big announcement? The opposition parties were misguiding the labourers, he added.
Rajdeep Roy further said adequate land would be arranged for new cultivation in Dolu and its other divisions where 2,500 acres of land had been earmarked for acquisition. But in no case, single labour would be deprived of his job.
Rajdeep Goala, on the other hand, said since some misconceptions regarding the future of the labourers were doing the rounds, hence the union felt it necessary to have a discussion with the MP. Former Congress Minister Ajit Singh was also present at the meeting.
