GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government has served land acquisition notices to the Ginger Hotel, located on the bank of Silsako Beel in Guwahati. He said that the government would vacate the land before the next flood season.

The Chief Minister said this while making comments on the current eviction drive taking place in Silsako Beel. Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “Ginger Hotel took possession of the land as per an order of the government. One of my preceding governments has given it the land allotment. Now, the Ginger Hotel, Omeo Kumar Das Institute, and Tourism Institute will vacate the land. Omeo Kumar Das Institute is an education institute that we cannot abolish in the state. We need to allot land at another place for this institute. Likewise, Ginger Hotel also bought land from the government. So, we need to provide them with land somewhere else. The process is underway. We will vacate these lands before the next flood season. We have already served them land acquisition notices.”

On the ‘Bagane Banage Congress’ programme of the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee), the Chief Minister said, “The tea estates have no Congressmen. They only have the BJP. The Congress leaders are going to see the BJP supporters in the gardens. The Congress did precious little for the development of tea estates over the years. We have paved roads, ensured a water supply, etc. We will foot the power bills of tea estate workers who cannot pay them”.
