GUWAHATI: DGP GP Singh has appealed to all police personnel in the state to rededicate themselves to provide the people of the state with an improved policing experience, with a special focus on cybercrimes, mainly financial frauds.

The DGP wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The New Year opens an opportunity to write a fresh chapter in our book of service to the people of Assam. Let’s re-dedicate ourselves to providing people with an improved policing experience. The focus has to be on cybercrimes, especially cyber financial frauds that affect a large number of people in Assam and other parts of the country and the world. The misuse of financial institutions and mobile and Internet platforms towards such cybercrimes has to be handled with a focused approach.”

On road accidents, he said, “The scourge of road traffic accidents and comprehensive improvement in traffic movement have to be addressed holistically, with Assam Police being a major stakeholder and a change agent. Further improvement in investigation resulting in an improved rate of charge sheets and convictions making full use of the potential of forensics, as envisaged in the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bhartiya Sakhshya Sanhita, would lead to qualitative change in the lives of the people of Assam.”

On ideal conduct on the part of police personnel, the DGP said, “The police offices and police stations should continue to be temples for police personnel and the safest refuge for the citizens, especially the women, children, and the marginalized sections of society. Any kind of sexual and financial misconduct on such pious premises would continue to be unacceptable. We must strive to improve our conduct and behaviour towards our junior colleagues and with the general public, giving them respect and treating them with empathy.”

On drink and duty, the DGP said, “Being inebriated while on duty or while wearing a uniform would continue to remain unacceptable. I am hopeful that together we can write this glorious chapter in Assam’s march towards peace, prosperity, and development.”
