GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet will take steps on whether to extend the lockdown beyond April 14 or not only on the basis of instructions and guidelines received from the Centre. The decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the Sarbananda Sonowal Cabinet held at Assam Administrative Staff College at Khanapara here on Sunday.
Transport and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that the State government will not take any decision on its own on the issue of lockdown extension.
The Cabinet meeting came a day after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a meeting with Chief Ministers of different States on the issue of lockdown extension. Even though there had been a broad consensus among the Chief Ministers to extend the lockdown up to April 30, the Centre has not yet taken the final decision.
Patowary said the State has adequate stock of essential commodities.
