DIGBOI: Vivek Superfast Express, the longest train operated by the Indian Railways, was flagged off officially during a special flag-off ceremony on Sunday. The ceremony was presided over by Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, in the presence of Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, and Uttam Prakash, DRM TSK.
The decision to increase the frequency of Vivek Superfast Express was made to meet the growing demand for travel between Dibrugarh and Kanyakumari. The new schedule provides passengers with more options to choose from and greater flexibility in planning their travel. The train service has increased its frequency from twice a week to four times a week starting from May 7, 2023. The train now will depart from Dibrugarh on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and return from Kanyakumari on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays.
Vivek Express has consistently been in high demand, with 100 per cent occupancy on all segments. It covers a distance of 4,189 kilometers, connecting Dibrugarh with Kanyakumari through Dimapur, Guwahati, New Jalpaiguri, Bardhamann, Kharagpur, Cuttack, Vishakapatanam, Vijayawada, Palakad, and Thiruvanathapuram, providing a comfortable and convenient mode of travel for passengers.
