GUWAHATI: Finally, the Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra at Narayanpur in the Lakhimpur district is set for inauguration on May 10, the second anniversary of the State Government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The project took more than 15 years after the laying of the foundation stone way back on March 23, 2007 by the then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The project suffered abysmal delays in the first 10–13 years. The construction work picked up pace only after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site and instructed the State PWD to speed up the project. Sri Sri Madhabdev was born at Letekupukhuri, near the Kalakshetra site.

The Kalakshetra will come up on the land donated by the management of the Sri Sri Badala Padma Ata Satra at Narayanpur in the Lakhimpur district.

Speaking to The Sentinel, the Deka Xatradhikar of Sri Sri Badala Padma Ata Satra, Sri Dipjyoti Mahanta, said, “Our xatra provided around 48 bighas of land for the Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra. The then Xatradhikar Sri Srikanta Goswami of Sri Sri Badala Padma Ata Satra took the decision to donate land for the kalakshetra. However, the delay in the project did not let him see it. Xatradhika passed away in 2020. The xatra is left with around four bighas of land now.”

The Deka Xatradhikar said, “As we know, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the Kalakshetra on May 10. The museum, the namghar, the bhakator boha (cottages of bhakats), the pandulipi bhawan (manuscript house), and a guest house have been completed. The construction of the auditorium and a few other structures is going on. That will take some time. The museum will display a few articles used by Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev, like the cauldron, banbati (brass bowl), etc. The manuscript house will have books written on Sanchipat.”
